I Did a Brave! (Includes Video of Me!)

You guys.

I did a brave.

I have been wanting to talk on camera for a looooong time. Partly because it looked like it might be a fun way to share thoughts, and partly because it TERRIFIES me, and therefore somehow also appeals to me.

(I dunno, man, anxiety is weird.)

And also because I think there’s something extra intimate and real and connecty about video. I’ve known from the start that I would eventually want to include video in my blog to connect with you guys and share through more than one medium.

So yeah. I talked on camera in my Instagram stories on Monday.

And then I felt so proud of myself that I wanted to tell you about it here, because I know not everyone is on Instagram.

So I converted the Stories to two short unlisted videos on YouTube so that I can embed them here to show you.

Because YES, I really am that nerdy and extra.

Here’s the first video, where I was practically peeing from nerves:

Sadie’s Big Quiet Hello

I got SO many sweet, supportive comments, and most of them were from people who felt the exact same way. It was incredibly validating and encouraging.

And then I went grocery shopping, and had a bit of a social debacle, and decided to just ride the confidence boost I had from the first video and share again (my phone buzzes at the beginning — sorry!):

Grocery Cart Story

That’s meeeee! Now you know how I look and talk and sound. The second video is way more natural and “me.”

I want to do this again. I mean, I will do this again, on Instagram.

Is video something that you’d like to see on here sometimes?

Let me know what you think! 🙂 🙂 🙂

I’m calling this a Recovery and Bravery Win. Not just for me, but for anyone who struggles with shyness and/or social anxiety. Because believe me, if *I* can get to this point, anyone can.

YOU can. xoxo

Okay. Now. Please go say nice and supportive things in the comments or in some other way because I guarantee that when I publish this, I will instantly start to feel a vulnerability hangover set in. Now. Right now.

P.S. This is post #30 on the blog!!!!

  1. Seeing you felt very connecting. The videos were a great blessing for us. We read on computer so that we could watch them. More, please. Yes, the second one was so real. In fact, so real that we were definitely cringing with anxiety at the story. As soon as you gave your full cart away, we were like, “How are you going to get all that stuff to your car???” And then you took brave action and solved it???!!! Superhero moment for you! Wow!!!! And the videos are sooooo brave!!!! Sadie, you are unstoppable

    1. THANK YOU so much!!! This comment is making me smile and sigh in relief and feel extra Superhero-y right now. I was hoping it would be well-received.

I guess I didn’t look at getting another cart as brave action. Thanks for the reframing 🙂 🙂

Also I read your email and will reply asap! It’s crunch time with my translation work this week. xoxoxo

    1. That’s the great thing — I’m soooo not a badass. I am scared and unsure most of the time. But I’m trying to turn my “biggest weakness” into a strength. (Not at ALL trying to discount the compliment you gave me, though, THANK YOU!!!!) I just don’t want to give the impression that I have anything all figured out haha

  2. Well, well, this is a HUGE moment for you. Both for “going video” and for dealing with that shopping cart episode. Former Sadie might have just left the store and never come back when she went to retrieve another cart. (I know that’s something I might have done…..). More videos please. It’s nice to hear you as well as read you. Congratulations. Much progress, there is.

  3. Way to go! 🙂 Brave, freaking brave! 😀 Kudos Sadie. 🙂

Also I relate to the anxiety of a line-up at the supermarket! All the looks… Even though there’s a self checkout machine at my local supermarket, I don’t know how to use and and don’t dare to try in case a line forms up behind me! So even though I have only a few items, I rather wait in line for the cashier.
